RIP Colette

On the 20th of December the trendiest store in the world - Colette on Rue St Honore will close it's doors for the last time, after 20 years of selling dead expensive trinkets to the fashionistas of the world. Our best friend in all the world, if only he knew us - Karl Lagerfeld, has said that it's the only shop worth bothering to go into, because they have things nobody else has - assume this doesn't include Chanel - Karlvonlagarfeldo? Colette is the first place we go to when we land in Paris - although to be fair - Nigel hates the place and only agrees to go because there's a cafe we like opposite, where he can get a bigger than normal Croque Madam. He's had a few goes around the store over the years but just doesn't get why I might yearn for a giant plastic gummy bear or a lighter with a Balenciaga logo on it - but installed with a glass of Cote du Rhone and a bowl of fries, he'll happily sit out my pilgrimage. This time I came out with a Miffy china tray and a pair of shoelaces by David Shrigley that say - I tie my shoes - The exact two things that nobody should have to live without.
